On January 10, 2011, Alix Spiegel of NPR’s Morning Edition spoke about the impact Children of Bellevue’s Video Interaction Project has on the families who participate in the program. Ms. Spiegel also spoke with Dr. Alan Mendelsohn, a Behavioral Pediatrician at Bellevue Hospital, who pioneered the Video Interaction Project.

The Video Interact ion Project (VIP), a joint program of Children of Bellevue, Bellevue Hospital Center and NYU Medical Center this summer received a grant of approximately $400,000 per year for five years. VIP was founded in 1999 by Children of Bellevue and has since gone on to receive national recognition as a model. The VIP Team is an integral unit of Bellevue’s Developmental Pediatrics practice. Led by Alan Mendelsohn, MD, Associate Professor of Pediatrics, the team includes Carolyn Brockmeyer, Ph.D., Project Director, Samantha Berkule-Silberman, VIP Director, Triana Urraca, VIP interventionist, Jenny Arevalo and Lisa White, Research Assistants, and Nina Burtchen, Research Fellow. Both Dr. Brockmeyer and Dr. Berkule-Silberman have specific expertise in parent-child interaction and school readiness.
